Attractions

If you’re planning a getaway at Tannum on the Beach Motel, we’re sure that you’re interested in some of the nearby attractions. The good news is that there is plenty to see and do in the Tannum Sands area.

Beaches

The consistent temperatures in this region of Queensland make Tannum Sands ideal for year round swimming and water sports (including jet skiing, stand up paddle boarding, wind surfing and paragliding). There are two main beaches to enjoy – Tannum Sands Main Beach and Canoe Point Beach, both of which are suitable for families. Main Beach is patrolled by surf lifesavers during the spring and summer swimming season for your safety.

Nature

If the water isn’t really your thing, there are plenty of other natural attractions in the area to enjoy. Take the kids to Millenium Esplanade, an award winning foreshore development that is home to free BBQs and a playground. Charter a boat and head across to Wild Cattle Island, an untouched national park. Canoe Point is also home to some beautiful parklands with a boardwalk around the point that offers some amazing views.

Golf

Why not play a few rounds at the local golf course? The Boyne Island Tannum Sands Golf Club, picturesquely located alongside the Boyne River, currently features 13 holes but is set to be upgraded to a world-class 18 hole course. The green itself is fairly flat with sand bunkers and water obstacles. Non-members are welcome to play on both weekdays and weekends. There is also an onsite clubhouse and bar to enjoy once your game has finished.

Art & Culture

Art lovers will not be disappointed – head the Canoe Point and take a walk through the outdoor sculpture display (all of which have been created by local artisans). There is also the Ocean Breeze Gallery, which was established by a local artist and currently showcases the work of Rosemary Anderson and Gary Hill. Take a 20 minute drive and you will find yourself at Cedar Galleries, which is home to 3 different galleries and a studio.

Events

The region actually hosts a handful of major events each year, so be sure to book your accommodation early to avoid missing out. The Boyne-Tannum Hook-Up is held in early May and is one of Australia’s premier fishing competitions. The Beach Arts and Music event (affectionately known as BAM) is held from March to December on the Millenium Esplanade. It’s a community event that features food stalls, live entertainment, crafts and lots more.

Boyne Island

Take the bridge across the river and you’ll find yourself on Boyne Island, which offers a number of its own attractions. Home to Australia’s largest Aluminium Smelter, you can learn more about this at the Smelter Visitor Centre and even book yourself onto a tour of the facility. The island also has more than 15km of walking trails, known as The Turtle Way, which winds its way through bushland, sand dunes and parks.
