Attractions

The good news is that, if you’re staying at the Sunnyside Hotel-Motel, you will have a wealth of attractions and things to do right at your fingertips. Visitors of all ages and interests will find something to do.

Beaches

Being located on the coast of Munderoo Bay, you cannot visit the town without hitting the beach. There are three west facing beaches fronting the town proper - the jetty beach, Port Broughton beach and northern beach. If you don’t mind heading out of town, you could also visit Munderoo Bay beach or Fishermans Bay. All beaches are suitable for swimming, dependent on the tides (not that the deeper channel at Fishermans Bay is close to the shore).

Nature

If you love getting outdoors but the water isn’t really your thing, you should explore one of the area’s many national parks. Mount Remarkable National Park is home to Alligator and Hidden gorges, beautiful native orchids and Mambray Creek. Belair National Park is one of the oldest in the world – visit the Upper Waterfall or Amphitheatre Rock. Onkaparinga National Park is home to South Australia’s second longest river and offers plenty of walking trails.

Fishing & Crabbing

The area is very popular for fishing and crabbing enthusiasts – book yourself onto a charter to head out into the bay or throw in your line from the jetty. The sheltered harbor of Port Broughton is popular for small fish (such as salmon, Tommy ruff, kingfish, squid and garfish). If you want to catch something bigger, we recommend heading to Wallaroo where you will find snapper, King George whiting, Australian salmon and yellowtail kingfish.

Heritage & Culture

To learn more about the history of the Port Broughton area, head to the Historical Museum (which details the history of the local area) or the Cottage Museum (which is located in what was once the old school building, built in 1879, and houses the beautiful ‘Plangon’ doll collection). The historic walking trail will give you a taste of the town’s history whilst getting in your dose of exercise. Visit many historic landmarks, such as the Old Station.

Local Produce

Being located on the coast means that you will have ample opportunity to try delicious fresh seafood. If you’ve booked self-contained accommodation, head to Barnes Seafood where you can purchase crab, oysters, prawns and fresh fish for you to prepare yourself. You will also be only a short drive from the popular Clare Valley wine region – if you have the time, we highly recommend dropping into one of the many wineries or the Knappstein Enterprise Brewery.

Sports

If you’re the kind of person who likes to get active whilst on holiday, this town is the perfect destination for you. Why not have a go at sailing or boating? The Port Broughton Sailing Club offers a range of activities to suit visitors of all ages. Or play a friendly game of bowls at the local lawn bowling club. You could also play a game on the local tennis or volleyball courts. Alternatively, enjoy one of the many walking trails found throughout the area.
