We are sure that guests of all ages will find something to interest them when choosing accommodation at the Raglan Motor Inn. Warrnambool is filled to the brim with attractions of all shapes and sizes.
The region is a popular tourist destination from late May to early October, as this is when Southern Right Whales return to the calm waters of Lady Bay (so that they can give birth and raise their calves). To see these gentle giants in their natural habitat, you can visit the Whale Viewing Platforms (located at Logan’s Beach) or you can book yourself onto a charter out onto the bay. Other viewing platforms are found at strategic locations down the coast.
No visit to the region is complete without playing a round or two at the Warrnambool Golf Club (renowned for being one of the most beautiful courses in the country and home to Aussie golfing pro, Marc Leishman). Visitors are invited to play a full (18 holes) or half round (9 holes), as well as the participate in the many competitions held throughout the year (lookout for them every Saturday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday).
A number of events and festivals are held in the region each year, some of which draw tourists from around Australia. In summer, watch the Australian Whale Boat Racing Championships and the Grand Sprintcar Classic. In autumn, Day on the Hill will introduce you to local food, wine and music. In winter, the Fun4Kids Festival is the perfect way to keep the little ones entertained. And in spring, the Warrnambool Show offers a great way to spend the weekend.
If visiting during the warmer months, ensure that you mosey on down to Logan’s Beach to take in some rays. This is the main beach for the Warrnambool area and is quite popular amongst swimmers, surfers, yachters and windsurfers. It is a favourite amongst families for the calm waters close to the shore. Stingray Bay, which is also located nearby, offers beautiful sheltered waters and a number of crystal-clear rock pools that the kids love to explore.
Those interested in the history of our great country will not be disappointed; the Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village is one of the most popular attractions in the area and provides visitors with a taste of life in Warrnambool during the 19th century. The village is set on over 40 hectares and includes a number of original buildings, shipwrecks and other popular sights. The Shipwrecked Sound and Laser Show is amazing – it’s held each night at dusk.
There are a number of walking and cycling tracks in the Warrnambool area, from the short (try the Promenade, Thunder Point Coastal Walk or the CBD Heritage Trail) to the long (opt for the Port Fairy to Warrnambool Trail or the Mahogany Trail), ensuring that there is a trail to suit all skill levels. Your children will also love exploring the many parks in the area, including: the Lake Pertrobe Adventure Playground, Cannon Hill and Fletcher Jones Gardens.
