Sebastian’s Restaurant right across the road has gained a well-earned reputation over many years as one of the premier fine dining experiences in Shepparton. The Teller Collective in Fryers Street, about 1km away, is also very well regarded and recommended by us.
A little further afield we recommend visits to Murchison Wines (Longleat) in Murchison (Saturday to Sunday) and Tallis Wines in Dookie (Tuesday to Sunday) for a snack and to try their magnificent wines (booking highly recommended if wishing to dine).
Delicious breakfasts can be served direct to guest rooms. Many nearby restaurants, clubs and pubs also offer chargeback facilities – simply enjoy your meal and it will be added to your bill at checkout!
The good news is that there are plenty of attractions in and around the Shepparton area for you to enjoy. No matter your age or interests, you’ll be spoilt for choice with the wealth of things to see and do.
One of the best things about Shepparton is that there are plenty of family friendly activities to enjoy – you won’t have time to do them all! Some of our favourites include: Inflatable World, Riverside Gardens & Mini Golf, SPC Kidstown, Fun City (go karts, laser tag, mini golf, a haunted house and a billiard hall), Go Jump Trampolines, Billabong Garden Centre, Aquamoves, Windmill Café & Chocolate Shop, Emerald Bank Adventure Park and the Kyabram Fauna Park.
The region is home to some delicious produce, from specialty fruit farms to sumptuous wines. Many of the local wineries have their own restaurants where you can sample the local cuisine – we particularly recommend Tahbilk Winery, which is the oldest in Victoria. Some of the smaller, boutique wineries that we enjoy include Longleat Estate, Tallis Wines and Monichino Wines. Phillips Cellars & Regional Wine Centre is a great one-stop-shop if you are interested in local wines. The SPC Ardmona factory outlet attracts thousands of visitors to the area and is regarded as a must-visit whilst in Shepparton.
If you would prefer to learn more about the history of the region, you won’t be disappointed. Check out the Murchison Heritage Centre, Shepparton Heritage Centre, Shepparton Motor Museum, Tatura Irrigation and Wartime Camps Museum, Bangerang Cultural Centre, Furphy Museum (which details the blacksmith history of the area), Garman War Cemetery, and the Historical Society of Mooroopna Musuem and Gallery.
Those who prefer to get outside will love exploring the Shepparton area. Visit the Lower Goulburn River National Park, Victoria Lake Park, or the Australian Botanical Gardens Shepparton. Kingfisher Cruises is also quite the experience if you want to get up close and personal with the local flora and fauna. For sport lovers, try your hand at various water sports, horse riding and golfing (Shepparton Golf Club, Mooroopna Golf Club or Hilltop Golf & Country Club).
Why not walk or cycle your way around Shepparton? Not only is this a fantastic way to see heaps of the local attractions, it’ll help to keep you fit and healthy! Some of the popular trails in the area include: the Dookie Rail Trail (9.3km), Merrigum History Walk (1.7km), Shepparton Bangerang Cultural Centre Walk (1.9km), Shepparton Goulburn River Walk (2.2km), Shepparton Public Art Walk (1.25km) and the Tatura Parks Walk (4.2km).
The city is also home to a wide variety of events each year – if you’re planning to travel during this time, be sure to book early to avoid missing out! Check out Taste of Tatura in March, the Rotary Motor Show in May, the Shepparton Marathon in August, KidsFest at KidsTown in September, the Shepparton Agricultural Show in October, the OUTintheOPEN Festival in November, or the Carols by Candlelight celebrations held each December.
