Attractions

There are a wide variety of attractions and things to do in the Warrnambool area, ensuring that those choosing to stay at City Heart Motel will have plenty to occupy themselves during their stay.

Whale Watching

Between late May and early October, pods of Southern Right Whales flock to Lady Bay in order to give birth and raise their calves. Each year, this draws hundreds (if not thousands) of tourists to Warrnambool, all hoping that they can catch a glimpse of the mother’s and babies. There are Whale Viewing Platforms located on Logan’s Beach (open 24 hours), otherwise you can book yourself onto a boat tour that will allow you to get much closer to the gentle giants.

Beaches

No visit to Warrnambool is complete without checking out the local beach. Logan’s Beach (which borders Lady Bay) offers a protected swimming zone that is suitable for swimmers of all strengths. Venturing a little further out provides waters suitable for surfing, yachting and even windsurfing. Stingray Bay is located at the mouth of the nearby Merri River – here, you can enjoy a sheltered cove that is ideal for families and can explore the crystal-clear rock pools.

Events

Warrnambool is host to a number of events and festivals throughout the year that you might like to participate in. Fun4Kids is a children’s festival held across 8 days each year, the Australian Whale Boat Racing Championships occur each summer, Day on the Hill (a food, music and wine festival) is held on Easter Sunday each year, the Warrnambool Show occurs each October, and the internationally recognised Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic is held each January.

Walks & Parks

If you enjoy getting outside, there are plenty of trails in the area for walkers of all skill levels. The CBD Heritage Trail is 3km, the Mahogany Trail is 22km and the Port Fairy to Warrnambool Trail is 37km. Other notable walks include the Promenade and Thunder Point Coastal Walk. If you want to exhaust the kids a little, we recommend the Lake Pertrobe Adventure Playground, beautiful Botanic Gardens, historic Cannon Hill or the Fletcher Jones Gardens.

Golf

Home to one of the most beautiful courses in Australia, any keen golfer should have a visit to the Warrnambool Golf Club at the top of their to-do list. The Club is located only 2km from the city centre and, whilst memberships are available, welcomes visitors. Single day passes are available, as are three day memberships if you are planning on staying a while. Competitions, open to both members and visitors, are held on Saturdays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Heritage

For those interested in the history of Warrnambool and the surrounding area, nothing can beat a visit to Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village (the largest maritime museum and village in Victoria). The Village is designed to teach visitors about 19th century life in the region, as well as boasting the largest collection of shipwrecks in the country. Other popular attractions include the Shipwrecked Sound and Laser Show, lighthouses, garrison and the 40 hectare grounds.

We stayed 3 nights at the City Heart Motel during August 2015.
Our room was very clean and comfortable, with a flat screen TV (with Foxtel), a small fridge, a very efficient heater, free Wi-Fi and tea and coffee. Inside the cupboard there was a fan, a small ironing board and iron, a toaster, and an extra blanket and pillows. Our ensuite bathroom was spotlessly clean and reasonably modern.
Very happy and friendly owners. Each morning we received a delicious and perfectly cooked breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast delivered to our room.
The motel is in a nice quiet location, despite being only a short distance from the main shopping and dining areas of Warrnambool.
I would recommend this motel to anyone seeking comfortable and reasonably priced accommodation in Warrnambool.
