How To Spend A Weekend In Melbourne (Plus 5 Great Places To Stay)

By Arra on 13 September 2016

If you’re looking for the perfect weekend getaway, why not head into the hustle and bustle of Melbourne? Whether you’ve got 48 hours or only 24, there are plenty of things to see and do. We’ve outlined a few of our favourite ways to spend a weekend in Melbourne to help you plan your trip.

  • Sport

Melbourne is a hub of sporting activity – catch a game of AFL in winter, have a punt on the horses, be a part of the action at the tennis in summer, or rug up to attend the rugby. Games and matches can be found all over the city every weekend year round.

  • Culture

Also known as the cultural capital of Australia, Melbourne’s performing arts scene has plenty to offer. The city is home to more than 13 theatres and concert halls, most with shows booked every night of the week. The Arts Centre and National Gallery of Victoria are also worth a visit.

  • Family Friendly

If you’re travelling with the kids in tow or just looking for something a little fun to do, Melbourne certainly delivers. Visit the museum, aquarium, zoo, IMAX 3D cinema, Medibank Icehouse or Luna Park. If you’re hiring a car, venture out to Healesville Sanctuary or Werribee Zoo.

  • Shopping

Bag a bargain when you explore the massive shopping precincts that Melbourne has on offer. You could spend the whole day wandering around Queen Victoria Market, otherwise checkout Emporium Melbourne, Southgate or the GPO.

If you’re planning to spend a night or two, you’ll definitely be wondering about the best place to stay. Whilst there are plenty of accommodation options in and around Melbourne, we’ve shared 5 of our favourites here. After all, you want the room to be comfortable without costing an arm and a leg.
